Basilisk dream novel
Scenario
A dream novel based on Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls.
The dream protagonist's name is Yuzuki.
Yuzuki is the younger sister of Kisaragi Saemon and Okoi.
She is about 16 years old.
Yuzuki is one of the younger members of the village, so she speaks politely to everyone as a rule.
Except for Danjo, she speaks politely to Gennosuke and addresses him with -sama.
In this story, romance does not develop.
She calls Gennosuke "Gennosuke-sama", Hyoma "Hyoma-dono", Kagerou "Kagerou-sama", Gyoubu "Gyoubu-dono", Jimushi "Jimushi-dono", Jousuke "Jousuke-dono", Kazamachi "Kazamachi-dono", Danjo "Danjo-sama", Saemon "Onii-sama", and Okoi "Onee-sama".
Her personality is gentle, friendly, honest, and pure.
Because Saemon and Okoi are much older, she is very much doted on by them.
She is also doted on by the Kouga clan.
She is also doted on by Gennosuke.
She secretly worries that her chest is smaller than Okoi's.
The story is a long-form narrative.
Just as everyone dies during the story, Yuzuki also dies.
She does not die in the early stages. She does not die before Okoi. She dies before Saemon. I want her death to cause sadness.
All characters speak in an old-fashioned manner based on the early Edo period.
The story is set in the early Edo period.
Character settings:
Kouga Gennosuke
He is the protagonist and Danjo's grandson. He is the user of the "eye technique" that causes those who attack him with killing intent to destroy themselves. He is in love with Oboro of the Iga Tsubagakure, and dreams of a future where Kouga and Iga join hands. He is sincere and gentle, a pacifist, but when he learns that many of his comrades have been killed without his knowledge, he calmly slaughters the Iga ninja who attacked him, showing a merciless side as well. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Kouga Danjo
He is the leader of the Kouga Manjidani clan. He was once in love with Ogen of Iga, but they were fated to be torn apart. He is a user of long poison needles. Immediately after the battle begins, he dies in a mutual kill with Ogen. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Kazamachi Shogen
A man with a spider-like appearance. The phlegm he spits from his mouth far exceeds the adhesive strength of glue, and by manipulating it like spider silk, he can entangle enemies. Also, when in a hurry, he literally crawls like a spider using both hands and feet, and can effortlessly cling to and climb vertical walls. Shogen himself does not get entangled in his own sticky threads, and can even use them as footholds, so from appearance to fighting style he is truly spider-like. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Udono Jousuke
Gennosuke's servant. He has a round, plump body, and his highly flexible flesh absorbs all impacts, making direct attacks almost useless. He also uses his elasticity to bounce around like a super ball for high-speed movement, and by inflating his body like a balloon, he can float on water or even fly temporarily. On the surface he is a womanizer and a joker, but during the banquet in Iga, while laughing loudly, he is not at all off guard inside, and shows a calm side as he suspects that the Iga leaders are not present. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Jimushi Juubei
A deformed ninja with no limbs. He usually rides in a palanquin, but in emergencies he uses the snake-like scales densely growing on his belly to move much faster than an average ninja. He also has a large spearhead hidden deep in his throat, and he uses the special movement of his esophageal muscles to eject it as a surprise attack, which is his trump card. He is good at astrology, and seeing a bad omen in Danjo's star, he heads to Sunpu alone. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Muroga Hyoma
A leading figure of Kouga Manjidani and a calm, collected strategist who supports Gennosuke. He is blind, but as compensation his other senses are highly developed, and he can detect the number of distant enemies, their identities from their footsteps, and even whether they have killing intent. He is Gennosuke's teacher in the eye technique, and only at night do his eyes open and he can use a similar technique. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Kasumi Gyoubu
A large man with no body hair. He boasts monstrous strength, able to easily strangle a person to death with one arm. He can freely blend into walls and the ground to hide himself, and is skilled at attacks using that ability. During the infiltration mission into Iga, he acts together with Saemon. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Kisaragi Saemon
Okoi's older brother. He is gentle and quiet, but during missions he shows a cold side typical of a ninja. He can copy another person's face onto his own and impersonate them, and combined with voice mimicry, he deceives enemies (he can apparently change his physique to some extent as well). He is also highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat, as shown when he instantly dislocates the elbows of multiple samurai who attacked him with a knife-hand strike. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Kagerou
A female ninja. She is a bewitching beauty, but when she gives in to lust, her breath becomes poisonous and anyone she embraces dies. She is devoted to Gennosuke, and although she comes from a family of equal status to Gennosuke and should be able to marry him, because of her constitution she can never be with him, which torments her, and at the same time she harbors deep hatred and jealousy toward Oboro. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Okoi
Saemon's younger sister. She has a voluptuous body and an innocent personality. She has skin that once it sticks to an opponent's skin will not let go, and she can suck blood from the opponent through her mouth, quickly turning them into a mummy. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Iga Tsubagakure clan
Edit
Ogen
Leader of the Iga Tsubagakure clan. She was once in love with Kouga Danjo, but the two were never united. She uses a hawk. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Oboro
Ogen's granddaughter. She has a gentle, easygoing personality and is a bit scatterbrained. Perhaps because of that personality, she was unable to learn any ninjutsu, swordsmanship, or martial arts, but she was born with the "eye of illusion-breaking" that forcibly breaks any ninja technique just by looking at it. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Azuki Rousai
A small old man with a mallet-shaped head and a long white beard. He has a strict and short-tempered personality. He can freely extend, contract, and bend his limbs, and he cuts anything he touches like a blade. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Akeginu
A female ninja who serves as Oboro's caretaker. She is intelligent and caring toward her comrades. She sprays blood from her skin to create a mist that blinds enemies. While caring for Koshiro, who has lost his sight, she gradually develops special feelings for him. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Mino Nenki
A man covered in hair all over his body. He is a master of bojutsu. He can extend the hair on his entire body, including his head hair, or harden it like needles, and he can move it freely to great effect for movement and attacks. He is said to be the most ferocious and brave man in the Iga group, and he is confident, saying he cannot wait for the truce to be lifted. His rash actions are often stopped by Tenzen. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Yashamaru
A handsome young ninja. His skills are high, but due to his inexperience he can be careless. He uses a thin rope made by twisting women's hair and soaking it in animal oil as a weapon, and by manipulating it freely, he can cut human flesh like a sharp blade. He and Hotarubi are lovers. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Hotarubi
A young female ninja. She commands insects and small animals, and is skilled at illusions using a large number of butterflies. She always carries a white snake, which she sometimes uses for attacks. She and Yashamaru are lovers. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Amayo Jingorou
A middle-aged ninja who looks like a drowned corpse, and is the strategist of the Iga Tsubagakure clan. Like a slug, he dissolves in salt and can shrink his body, and when soaked in water he returns to normal. Because of this, he has an extreme fear of the sea. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Yakushiji Tenzen
The vice-leader of Iga. Although he is said to have lived for more than 170 years, his appearance remains that of a young to middle-aged man, and he possesses an immortality technique that allows him to revive no matter how many times he is killed. He is cruel and underhanded, and will stop at nothing for Iga's victory. Although he is a master swordsman, because of his arrogance from that ability, he is often killed in the first exchange. However, he is skilled at using that to see through the opponent's ninja technique and then countering it in a rematch to corner them. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Chikuma Koshiro
Yakushiji Tenzen's personal servant. He is hot-blooded but honest, and he adores Oboro; because of his low status, he is the only one in Iga Tsubagakure who calls Oboro "Hime-sama". He uses a large sickle as a weapon, and also uses a very powerful technique in which he inhales to create a vacuum blade (kamaitachi) in the air in front of him, slicing enemies from within. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Others
Edit
Tokugawa Ieyasu
The retired shogun. He is the one who lifted the truce between Kouga and Iga to decide the successor who will become the third shogun.
Nankoubou Tenkai
The brains of the Tokugawa shogunate who proposed the ninja battle to Ieyasu. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Yagyu Munenori
The shogunate's sword instructor. As one of the Tokugawa chief retainers, he witnesses the ninja exhibition at the beginning and is shocked by the battle of ninja beyond common sense. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
Ofuku
Takechiyo's wet nurse. She breaks the rules to assist the Iga side for their victory. She later becomes Kasuga no Tsubone. Old-fashioned way of speaking.
The clans hidden in Kouga Manjidani and Iga Tsubagakure were both ninja groups led by Hattori Hanzo, but they had been sworn enemies for hundreds of years since the Genpei era, harboring hatred for each other. Under Hattori's control, the ban on fighting between the two schools barely maintained peace. In the midst of this, Gennosuke, the grandson of Kouga Danjo, leader of the Kouga group, and Oboro, the granddaughter of Ogen, head of the Iga group, were in love, and it was thought that if the two families were united, the long-standing feud between Kouga and Iga might be resolved.
Whether aware of this or not, at the end of April in Keicho 19, Tokugawa Ieyasu and Hanzo (the second) summoned both leaders to Sunpu Castle and gave the Kouga and Iga ninja a truly horrifying mission. Ieyasu, who was troubled over choosing the successor to become the third Tokugawa shogun, accepted Tenkai's proposal and decided to determine the selection through a ninja battle between Kouga and Iga.
The method was for each side to send 10 "contestants", and the last one alive would bring the entrusted scroll back to Ieyasu. The successor would be Takechiyo if Iga won, and Kunichiyo if Kouga won. The 10 chosen from both Kouga and Iga all possessed astonishing bodies and skills. And among them were the names of Gennosuke and Oboro, who were about to be married...
Immediately after the battle began, Iga seized the initiative, killed a Kouga messenger, burned one of the two scrolls, and monopolized the remaining one. Vice-leader Tenzen took command, and deliberately kept Oboro, who disliked conflict, in the dark. Thus, Kouga, unaware that the battle had even begun, was subjected to a surprise attack by the Iga.
After both sides suffered many casualties, Gennosuke finally learned that the battle had begun. He declared that they must ask Ieyasu and Hanzo why they lifted the truce, and headed to Sunpu with his comrades. Tenzen and the Iga also pursued the Kouga group.
